The beauty of Lampwork Beads

What is Lampworking?

Lampwork is a glass forming technique that uses the process of melting glass rods over an open flame (originally it was the flame of a gas lamp). Once the glass is molten, the Lampwork artist wraps it around a metal rod called a Mandrel. Then with the help of various tools and techniques they further shape and design the glass; often adding other colours of glass to create elaborate decorations.

Lampwork beads shows individuality, time and patience of the maker and gives some amazing results.
Lampwork beads have really become popular over the last five or so years here in Britain and they have had a tremendous following in the United States for well over ten years now. Now with the huge popularity of bead jewellery, many jewellery makers are using more and more lampwork beads in their work. The look of hand crafted beads is second to none and every bead is so unique, giving lampwork a huge advantage over mass produced beads, some of which are even made from plastic.

How to choose your jewellery - Necklaces

An easy guide to choosing jewellery that suites you

On average most neck sizes are very similar and so a 16” necklace will fit most. However, if your neck is larger than average, a 16" Necklace might be tight which will just draw attention to your neck, rather than the jewellery so opting to go for a longer necklace is always a good option. Most stores and sites are able to cater for this and offer necklaces in various lengths, a lot offer an 18” as standard so if you’re not sure just ask the length.When you’re choosing a pendant always consider size, how large is the pendant and how low does it fall? Think about the top that you’ll wear it with and make sure the pendant does not fall below the neckline of your top. (You can use a piece of string or an existing necklace to check the lengths). Is the chain adjustable and if so, by how much?

Consider the colour of your jewellery as this is your personal style and colours that suit you. So don’t be swayed by someone saying yes buy this because of the price buy it because it suits you and is right for you.
